Tips from a Central Florida Maternity Photographer

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re counting down the days until you meet your baby—and first, let me just say congratulations! Whether this is your first or your fourth, documenting your maternity journey is something so special. It’s a fleeting moment full of anticipation, love, and connection, and I believe it deserves to be celebrated (and documented) beautifully.

As a maternity photographer based in Cocoa Beach, Florida, I’ve created this guide to help you feel calm, confident, and excited about your session. Here are my best tips for preparing for your maternity photos on the Florida coast:

1. Timing is Key

The sweet spot for maternity photos is usually between 28–34 weeks. You’ll have a lovely round bump, but still feel comfortable enough to move around and pose naturally. This can vary for each mama, so feel free to reach out if you’re unsure!

We usually schedule these sessions during sunrise or sunset on the beach, when the light is soft, golden, and flattering—perfect for capturing that dreamy, glowy look.

2. What to Wear for Your Beach Maternity Photos

Keep it simple, flowy, and true to you. I always recommend:

  • Neutral tones (think creams, beiges, or soft pastels)
  • Flowy dresses that catch the ocean breeze
  • Minimal, organic textures like linen or cotton
  • For partners: linen pants or neutral-toned button-downs work great

Don’t worry—when you book with me, you’ll receive a full session guide with styling tips, color palettes, and even shoppable links to make this part easy! I also love collaborating by creating Pinterest boards to help bring your vision to life.

3. Keep It Light + Comfortable

We’ll be walking on the sand, maybe dipping our toes in the water, and having fun. It’s okay if the wind blows your hair or your dress flows unexpectedly—those candid, natural moments often become your favorites.

Bring the essentials:

  • A hairbrush or clip for windy moments
  • Flip flops or bare feet
  • Water and a light snack- Always bring water!
  • And most importantly, an open heart ready to celebrate this chapter

4. Bring Your Partner or Older Kiddos

This session is just as much about your growing family as it is about the bump. Including your partner (or other children) can add so much warmth and connection to your gallery. We’ll guide you through natural posing and playful prompts so everything feels easy and authentic. I am always sure to capture individual maternity photos as well as incorporating the whole family. I also love just documenting mom and dad being cute together.

5. Let Go of Perfection

You don’t have to know how to pose or worry about looking a certain way. That’s my job. You just get to show up, be present, and soak in this season. We’ll laugh, breathe in that salty air, and create something that feels like you. We also take our time in this process.. no rushing around or forcing it. We can take breaks, when needed, and just enjoy the moment.

Final Thoughts

If you’re considering a Cocoa Beach maternity session or traveling to Central Florida for a babymoon, I’d love to be a part of telling your story. I take on a limited number of maternity sessions each month so I can truly give each family a tailored, relaxed experience.

Let’s create something beautiful before your next big adventure begins.
