Capturing Memories at Sunrise

Capturing memories of a family photo session in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

If you’re searching for the perfect beach family photo session inspo, look no further!

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful family who just relocated to Florida from Austin, Texas. The session took place on the sandy shores of Cocoa Beach during the magical hours of sunrise, and it was a morning full of laughter, love, and stunning light.

Whether you’re a local or visiting, a family portrait session at the beach is a wonderful way to preserve memories of your time in Florida, and this session was no exception. Here’s a glimpse into this special family session and why Cocoa Beach is the perfect backdrop for family portraits.

A Fresh Start in Florida – Meet the Family

This adorable family of three—mom, dad, and their sweet 1.5-year-old son—had recently made the move from Austin, Texas to Cocoa Beach. Relocating to a new state is always exciting, and what better way to capture this new chapter of their lives than with a family photography session on the beach?

Their son was full of energy, curiosity, and giggles, making for some of the sweetest moments on camera. From the first step onto the soft sand to chasing the waves, their son’s joy was contagious and made for some truly candid and memorable photos.

Why Cocoa Beach is the Perfect Spot for Family Photos

Cocoa Beach is one of Florida’s most iconic destinations, offering a serene yet vibrant setting for a family photo shoot. Here are a few reasons why this location is ideal for capturing timeless family portraits:

  1. Stunning Sunrise Views – We chose to shoot at sunrise for that perfect golden hour light, and the results were magical. The soft, warm glow of the early morning sun illuminated the family beautifully, creating an intimate and serene atmosphere.
  2. Iconic Beach Vibes – The wide, sandy shoreline and gentle waves provide a gorgeous, natural backdrop. The contrast of the soft blue sky with the golden tones of the beach creates a timeless, peaceful scene that really makes the family stand out in every shot.
  3. Quiet and Peaceful – Early mornings at Cocoa Beach are generally less crowded, allowing us to capture photos without distractions. With a little one in tow, this was especially important to keep things relaxed and fun.
  4. Perfect for Active Families – Cocoa Beach offers plenty of space for the family to move around, making it easy to capture both posed and candid moments. Whether it’s running along the shore, playing in the sand, or simply holding hands while strolling along the water’s edge, there’s always a perfect moment to snap a picture.

A Joyful Family Portrait Session

The family brought so much energy and love to the session, making it a joy to photograph them. Their son was all smiles as he played with his parents in the sand, and we even caught a few sweet moments as he ran toward the surf, delighted by the waves crashing on the shore. The parents shared loving glances and playful interactions, creating a natural and heartfelt connection that truly shines through in the photos.

One of the highlights was capturing the family’s bond with the early morning sun casting beautiful light across their faces. The warmth of the sun complemented the warmth of their love, making the session feel both intimate and timeless.

Tips for Your Own Family Photography Session at Cocoa Beach

If you’re planning your own family session at Cocoa Beach, here are a few tips to make the most of it:

  • Arrive Early – The best light is at sunrise, so be prepared to start early. Plus, it’s a quieter time at the beach, which makes it easier to get those perfect shots without interruptions.
  • Dress Comfortably – Opt for light, comfortable clothing that will move easily with you. Earth tones or pastels work great for beach photos and complement the natural colors of the environment.
  • Let the Kids Be Kids – One of the best things about photographing young children is capturing their natural energy and personality. Don’t stress about getting “perfect” posed shots—some of the most beautiful moments are the candid ones!
  • Embrace the Beach Vibes – Play in the sand, dip your toes in the water, and enjoy the moment. The more relaxed and engaged you are, the more authentic your photos will feel.
